The Black Market story began just over 30 years ago, in 1984, with our first club night in London. It’s remarkable to think that we opened the doors to the Black Market Records shop way back in 1988. The momentum it helped bring to the UK dance music scene was simply a dream as we worked to stock our bins with incredible new sounds that DJs and club goers would quickly embrace. Today, we are as dedicated as ever to continue to nurture what it is that people have always loved about Black Market, to never lose focus on what it’s all about — the music.

At the moment we are working on some major updates to this website that includes bringing all of our music, events and clothing together under one roof. We’ve taken down our digital download shop temporarily while we work on a few things, but it will be back soon.

In addition to the work going on here, look out for new vinyl releases, clothing and accessories, and we’re also really excited about a new series of events we’re doing in Mexico City. As always, we would love to hear from you so feel free to contact us.

Regarding the recent BM Soho news

We are sad to see BM Soho close. We opened Black Market Records in 1988, those walls have housed vinyl ever since. A special place, a special time.

Just to avoid any confusion… Many still thought of BM Soho as Black Market, but we were not affiliated.

We are very much alive and kicking.
